There are many who believe that there are more advantages when using an Airtrack compared to a normal gym mat, but what is it exactly that makes it so great to use an Airtrack rather than the classic gym mat? Let's take a closer look at this topic and see why this inflatable gym air are so highly popular these days. Last month we took a look at what an Airtrack is and how to use it. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the many benefits of using Airtracks for sports and gymnastics.
People love to train at home these days, And that is why the smaller models such as an Airtrack mini are used extensively in the home. Especially the younger gymnasts use these in a big way. The advantage of the smaller and cheaper Airtracks is that they can be used indoors or in the garden, if you have the space. Children can then practise the various gymnastic techniques in a fun and effective way. Older children often buy a 3-4 metre model, which is ideal for use in the garden. This also makes this length the most purchased here in 2019. You can buy an Airtrack at GymPlay an online retailer of gymnastics equipment. These models require a little more space, but also allow for even more jumping combinations than the smaller models do. Many in this target group also use Airtracks for fun. For example, by throwing water on it and using it as a slide, or as a giant floating mattress in the water park. Many also choose to put together 2-3 Airtracks and some extra gym equipment and build their own tumble track or gymnastics track. This can be a really fun way to play together and get a lot of exercise at the same time.

If you are into gymnastics, then you really can'y go wrong with an Air track. There are also many experienced gymnasts or elite gymnasts who swear by the use of Airtracks. Here it is often the slightly longer and thicker models they use, as these provide more height on the jumps and allow for even more complex jump series. Typically, models of 5-6 metres are used, and in some cases as much as 15 metres. Especially the very large Airtracks are often used in jumping tournaments and competitions which makes it much more fun to watch (and practive).

And now on to the main question - What are the advantages of Airtracks over regular gym mats? The thicker an Airtrack is, the more height you get from the jumps you do on it. Not as much as on a trampoline, but still more than on a flat gym mat. The extra height typically allows for jumps and exercises that you may not be quite ready to do on the floor, or jumps that aren't actually possible to do on the floor.
Thus, the Airtrack can be a really effective piece of exercise equipment for quickly learning new jumps, or for performing series of jumps that are not normally possible. In doing so, it takes gymnastics to a whole new level and makes the sport even more fun for gymnasts. Many therefore consider Airtracks to be a brilliant piece of fitness equipment and one of the best inventions of recent times. Many would even go as far as to say it is the ultimate gymnastics mat - and I must say here I definitely agree. Even though I personally don't have much experience on the Airtrack, I know a lot of people who love to use it.
Not in every situation is an Airtrack the best solution. One of the limitations is just the length of it. Even on some of the larger models, you don't have quite the same freedom that you have on a floor. Some also feel that the extra help you get from using Airtracks is "cheating", and therefore tend to use the regular gym mats. For several other types of sports where you use gym mats, wrestling, judo, etc. it also doesn't make sense to use a high inflatable mat. Here the classic gymnastic mats are of course preferable.

Airtracks can be used by everyone. The younger users typically buy the smaller models like those of 3-4 meters and 10cm in height, where the slightly older ones prefer the 5-6 meter models.
But typically it is children and adults who practice jumping gymnastics who use them. In addition to gymnastics, Airtracks are also widely used in other sports such as cheerleading, parkour and martial arts. In fact, any sport that has this type of jump could benefit from using Airtracks for training or show.
Having said that, Airtracks are here to stay and I predict we'll be seeing a lot of them over the next few years. Although most gymnasts are already familiar with them, there are still many other sports that could benefit from these modern gymnastics mats, but their use is not as widespread outside of gymnastics yet. At least not here in Denmark. In the US, they are widely used in several types of sports and fitness. And I am sure that over the next few years we will see them in use in many more types of sports and athletics. It really is a great gym mat.
