Selecting the right fitness equipment for your homegym

What types of equipment you need for your home gym depends in large parts on how much space you have. If you have a small room there isn't space for large machines, and you will most likely have to focus more on compact stuff. A small bike instead of a threadmill would be an option. A weight rack on the wall or other fancy stuff to make better use of the room. Another type of training equipment you could consider if you got limited space is the highly popular power bands or training elastics which can be used for more or less a full body workout program and doesn't really take up much space. Let's take a closer look at some of the more common types of fitness equipment normally used at a home gym.

    Cardio machines

Exercise bikes, threadmills, rowing machines, cross traininers - all are great machines to burn some calories. The only problem is that they take up a lot of space. A mistake many does when it comes to cardio machines, is buying them to cheap. If you buy a discount brand or a cheap model from the local wall mart changes are that you will get something that doesn't give you right amount of training, isn't fun to use, or break down after a while. Do youself a favor and buy some quality stuff. I don't suggest you go all in and buy an expensive Technogym threadmill (unless you are loaded), but don't go for the cheapest models you can find.

    Dumbells

Dumbells are great for training the upper body - especially if you got enough to increase the weight as you get stronger. In order to get the most out of dumbells I would suggest you get an ajustable training bench. Again if space is a bit limited, you may also want to consider the new ajustable dumbells where you can vary the weight on the same dumbell. This can save a lot of space. But these new ajustable dumbells are a bit expensive, especially the heavier ones.

    Kettlebells

Kettlebells also require a bit of space but is a fun way to train your muscles, a lot of kettle bell exercies targets most larger muscle groups and if you already know a bit of crossfit, kettlebells are a must.

    Barbells

Combined with a quality training bench, a barbell and a bunch of weights is a super training tool. You can train bench press, squat, military press and many other of the best whole body exercises with this setup. If I had to suggest one type of training equipment, then it would be barbells. A old school training tool which have provided great results for many.

    Training mats

A good training is also a valuable training tool. It's great for a bunch of yoga exercises, but also useful for streatching your body after a hard workout. Something most people really should do, as muscle training sometimes can shorten the muscles.

This was a little bit of inspiration for those who are thinking about building their own homegym.
