How to Avoid the Queue

People are talking about endgame because for players who have played a ton or practiced a lot, you can finish act 10 in like 4-6 hours pretty easily. And other streamers and such have done videos on league starts, engineering eternity probably did, I know raizqt has some videos of league starts or race ideas, zizaran might too.
We've all talked to death the various problems, bugs, or design flaws with the Bestiary league and its mechanics. I thought it might be interesting to flip it and talk about the things we liked about it or thought it did well. ⒈ I like that yellow/red beasts can pop up in the Labyrinth. I hate when you can't tell which league you're playing in Lab, especially given that End Game Grind and other challenges could encourage you to spend a lot of time there.
⒉ I think the pseudo-set items league uniques are interesting and it's fun to see GGG experimenting with that design space.
⒊ I like some of the recipes -- stuff like five new prophecies or horizon orbs are fun, even if they aren't super powerful. I also made a few uniques I haven't seen before (even if they were totally worthless from a trade perspective) via beastcrafting, which was also fun.
⒋ Einhar and his writing and voice acting is A+.
⒌ In the abstract, aside from any of the problems with menagerie management or beastcrafting or early league bugs, capturing beasts is fun.
⒍ Red beasts popping up while leveling my first character were some of the most epic fights I've had playing through the acts in years and were super fun, even though really the smartest or most efficient thing would have been to keep running past them. I enjoy when the league mechanic actually makes playing through the story more interesting.

If you haven't heard the term "Win More" before, generally speaking it's a bonus which triggers when you're already winning that allows you to win more. These mechanics typically fall into the category of "noob traps" because they often look flashy and cool on paper but in practice they provide no meaningful benefit. The support gem Cast on Melee Kill is a good example of a win more mechanic. In order to trigger the linked spell reliably, your melee skill needs to be able to kill monsters quickly and reliably. But if your melee skill is already clearing reliably then what do you need the triggered spell for? Cast on Melee Kill is a really egregious example of a win more mechanic which is why it's never used. It also doesn't help that the melee and spell aspects of the gem destructively interfere with each other.
It's just a matter of building around a mechanic to make it meaningful without the first "win more" condition you are setting. Yes, by themselves each of the examples is a "win more" if you only use it as how the base mechanic is defined, but when combo'd with uniques/gems/skills and different play styles, they can be become the core of a build rather than something on top of another build. The sky really is the limit for Path Of Exile and we can only see it getting bigger. You're falling into the trap of the paper benefits win more mechanics claim to give versus the actual gameplay benefits they provide. Take your shock example, the difference between 6 hits and 9 hits is taking what is a already a clearly trivial fight and making it even more trivial by shortening it by about 1-2 seconds. If 2 seconds is the difference between life and death for your build then you'll find a lot more benefit from boosting your defenses than trying to scale a win more mechanic.
For shock to meaningfully impact on a fight, you need to be dealing about 10% of the enemy's base life in damage per hit. I think if you take a quick look around at what builds rely on shock to scale their damage there are none. Contrast that with the old shock which was not a win more mechanic and many builds relied on it to scale damage. Sure there are options like lightning trap but these give guaranteed shock values which is a completely different mechanic.

The Bestiary League allows exiles to hunt, capture, and ultimately sacrifice a wide variety of beasts in order for you to craft potent items. If it is any indication of PoE’s overall direction, you sure can bet your bottom Dollar that there are plenty more cool permutations to come in the game’s future. But, of course, let’s not get ahead of ourselves either. Let’s just make the most of the time we have in the Abyss League and hop on the oncoming changes that the 3.2.0 update has to offer.
