The prosecution must prove all of the following elements beyond a reasonable doubt in order to convict someone of strangulation in Virginia:

• The defendant knowingly, intentionally, and unlawfully applied pressure to the victim's neck.
• The application of pressure resulted in the victim's wounding or bodily injury.
