Their stadium, the City Ground, opened in 1878 and was built on a site adjacent to the city centre. It is home to both the Football Club and the University of Nottingham, and has a capacity of 20,000 spectators.

Forest were a founding member of the Football League in 1892, and have won the FA Cup twice, and also the European Cup - outlasting Malmo FF in 1979 and Hamburger SV in 1985. They were also winners of the League Cup twice, and were a regular in the Football League at the top of the table in the 1970s.

The most successful period in Forest's history was under manager Brian Clough. The Forest team under him won the League Cup in 1975 and 1979 and reached the final of the European Cup on two occasions. He was a master of his trade, bringing in some of the greatest players in English history.

He was a man with a real eye for talent, and his ability to cherry pick some of the best players from all over the world was legendary. Some of his key signings included John Robertson, who would go on to score the winning goal in the 1979 European Cup final, and Bob McKinlay, a Scotsman who made 685 appearances for Forest.

Another signing of Clough's was Peter Shilton, the goalkeeper who remains England's most capped player. He was a pivotal part of the team that won the League Cup in 1975 and 1979, and was also a key part of the side that beat Malmo FF 1-0 in the European Cup.

During his time in charge, Clough helped to transform the club from the lowly Third Division into the First Division and to win their only League title. He was also responsible for a successful run in the FA Cup, taking the reds to the final of the competition three times, and making them one of the top teams in the country.

It was during this time that Clough became a legend of the game, and Forest enjoyed a golden era under his management. His slick passing style was a hallmark of the team and they were able to play out from the back and pass with great precision.

Aside from the slick passing style, Forest also possessed some of the best players in the game at the time. The likes of John Robertson, Bob McKinlay and Frank Clark were among the many names that were brought in under Clough's management.

The first decade of the 21st century saw Forest struggle in the lower leagues, but the club managed to recover their form under the management of Steve Cooper. They have won a place in the top half of the Championship since his arrival, with a Cup run reinvigorating memories of glory days at the City Ground and a push for automatic promotion which only ended during the last week of the season.
