Open spaces in the city were lined up by larger-than-life posters of candidates, their party flags with conspicuous symbols. The election has been the main topic among morning walkers in Company Bagh, customers along roadside tea stalls in busy city streets and in sleepy and dusty villages of Chabba in the city's outskirts.

 

Candidates of the different political parties have made last- minute rallies and road shows to woo voters to their side. The BJP has entered into a pre-poll alliance with SAD. The two have been running a coalition government in the state since 2007.

In Amritsar, BJP has fielded its stalwart Arun Jaitely against Congress Party's former chief minister Amarinder Singh and AAP's renowned eye specialist Dr. Daljeet Singh.

 

Analysts said there would be a tough three-cornered fight and the outcome is difficult to predict.

 

While Congress Party candidate in Amritsar has been attacking alleged misdeeds by the incumbent, SAD-BJP combine candidate urged voters not to "bleak their prospectus by going against Modi wave." AAP's candidates are also raking corruption issues against the incumbent leaders.
