SSH into Raspberry Pi Behind a Firewall – How to Access Remotely?

I'm trying to SSH into my Raspberry Pi, which is located behind a home firewall/router. I've enabled SSH on the Pi, but I can't connect from outside my local network. Port forwarding on my router doesn't seem to help, and I’m concerned about security. Is there a safer and more reliable method to remotely access the Pi? I've heard of tools like ZeroTier or Tailscale, but I'm unsure how to set them up. Any advice, tutorials, or best practices would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance! ssh raspberry pi behind firewall
