For most eight-year-old girls, playing with dolls and gadgets is a daily activity. But not so with Nicole Oliveira.
This little girl from Fortaleza, Brazil, joined a program affiliated with the US Space Agency (NASA) to search for asteroids in the universe. Nicole Oliveira listed herself as the youngest astronomer in the world.
Nicole, according to her family, Nicole's the other side has seen 18 space stones. He attended seminars and meetings of scientific figures, or debated with astronomers about the universe and everything in it.
Nicole's bedroom is filled with posters of the Solar System. There's a mini rocket, which represents his desire to go into space, and Star Wars figures scattered on his shelves.
Every day, if not playing with dolls, Nicole engrossed in front of two large computer screens studying the telescope's image of the night sky. He focuses on the search for space rocks.
Nicole regularly surveyed the night sky, exploring every corner of the sky, taking several pictures of it, before returning to her bedroom to sleep.
Now, Nicole is a member of Asteroid Hunters -- a NASA-affiliated citizen science program run by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration.
There is a role for the state that makes Nicole skyrocket quickly. The Brazilian Ministry of Science is one of the partner organizations that work closely with NASA and other organizations.
Nicole has interviewed many astronomers, met Brazil's minister of science, and discussed with Marcos Pontes -- the only Brazilian to go into space.
He dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer, building rockets, visiting the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and studying the rockets the US has built.
Nicole has now become the new pride of Brazilian society, especially those who care about science.
