I am wanting to install ambient lighting in the front foot-wells of my 2015 Accord Sport, getting the parts is not an issue, however I am a bit confused as to how the system operates. One Honda site says, "...integrates with interior lighting" while another site says that it can be turned on & off using the exterior light ****... headlights, etc.

    "HOW TO OPERATE
    • With the light switch set to the on position,
    the ambient lights are on.
    • When the headlight switch is in the “AUTO” position,
the ambient lights are on with the parking lights or
    headlights"

I want the foot-well lights to come on automatically when the doors are opened and to turn off automatically when the doors are closed.. just as it is with the overhead dome light

Any and all advice/comments are appreciated

Some time ago neon lighting was used to tune the interior of a car. It is bright enough, thanks to which even a rather large space is illuminated from even one lamp. However, neon is quite expensive, it is very afraid of mechanical damage, it often burns out when it is turned on and off, and it is also more difficult to install. So I decided to use LED https://www.amazon.com/car-lights-car-led-lights/dp/B09L86JRRM. The standard places for installing additional light in the passenger compartment are considered to be the place under the dashboard and glove box, car seats, doors, door handles. Although, basically, you can highlight anything, it all depends on your imagination.
