I know the OSRS gold complaints people have with RS3. It is not the game you played with as a child. It is different. But in my view that has made it simpler. You know what nobody mentions when referring to EoC? Every weapon is effective.
I rolled HC ironman on day 1 and could never play the main game , it's simply not rewarding at all.
The sport has so much content, tons of pleasure places, replayable distractions & diversions and minigames, and the rewards keep me coming back. I play heavily for 2-3 months a year and actually progress in that down time the areas I want to improve, and unlock a wonderful amount of content at the moment.
I've had a very similar experience too, once I understood that the battle in orsr was mostly prayer flicking along another similar complaints. I then tried out rs3 when I read some discussions on how rs3 ironman adds to the experience of this sport, making the easier game tougher and forcing you to acquire every source yourself that is fairly rewarding.
Being an Ironman has made it better, it feels like playing a huge single-player RPG as opposed to another generic MMORPG. I am mainly excited about group Ironman so I will get my friends into the game and team up with them. The sole MTX I have access to will be direct pay in which you get just what you spend money on and it is purely decorative.
I would suggest anyone getting into RS3 to go at it as an Ironman. See how far you can create it like a Hardcore such as me. And with group coming the RS3 it'll let Ironmen combine in a larger range of minigames and end-game tasks without a massive quantity of hassle. Plus you'll be able to limit your interactions to just your social circle and still happily ignore Treasure Hunter.
I Stand with a comment I made a few years back, if Rsgoldfast fixed the MTX which overwhealms the game, and make some core fixes here and there so the battle is somewhat more fluid, RS3 is unquestionably the superior match.
