Vn88 Rezence News: Swans and Coventry play to a scoreless tie

  • As a result of the scoreless draw at Swansea Stadium, Coventry's play-off chances were dealt another blow.

That's five points lost since the beginning of April, and they fell one spot as a result. Following the Vn88, Coventry's only consolation is that the gap to sixth place remains unchanged at three points.

For the first time in six months, Swansea manager Russell Martin used the same starting lineup that won a spectacular south Wales derby against Cardiff in the previous game thanks to a winner from Ben Cabango in the 99th minute.

The Sky Blues traveled to Swansea with the hopes of breaking a losing streak against their archrivals dating back to 1981. Mark Robins hoped that his squad could bounce back from Sunday's 4-0 home setback to Stoke, which snapped a string of nine consecutive victories.

As was to be expected by Rezence Vn88, Swansea dominated possession in the first 15 minutes, with the best chance of the period coming when Harry Darling headed a Ryan Manning cross into the side netting in the seventh minute.

Coventry were happy to press and strike their hosts on the counter, and they did so well twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead.

Former Swansea player Viktor Gyokeres took a short corner after 18 minutes, twisted his defender at the byline, and then brought the ball back to the outside of the six-yard box to set up defender Callum Doyle for a shot on goal. W88 said that his left-footed attempt at goal was stopped by home goalkeeper Andy Fisher's feet.

In the 34th minute, after Manning had thrown away a 25-yard pass to Gustavo Hamer, Fisher made an even better stop.

Hamer had a one-on-one with the Swansea goalkeeper, Fisher, when the Republic of Ireland wingback buried his head in his hands. Fisher made the save, though.

Liam Walsh's offside shot, along with long-range efforts from Olivier Ntcham and team leader Joel Piroe, according to Vn88, were Swansea's greatest moments of the first half.

The home team had two excellent chances to take the lead in the first few minutes of the second half.

Initially, Walsh volleyed a left-wing cross from Manning toward the goal, but Darling blasted the rebound, from six yards out, over the crossbar.

Soon after, Piroe was left unguarded on the penalty spot and he slid the ball past an outstretched Ben Wilson and narrowly wide of the left post.

Coventry responded with some strong forays into the penalty area with shots from Hamer (which were saved) and Ben Sheaf (which were not). Later, with 18 minutes remaining, Matt Godden missed a sitter after a defensive miscue.

After Ntcham's 30-yard thunderbolt was well saved by Wilson, Piroe missed an open net from close range.

Manager Russell Martin of Swansea said with Rezence:

"In my opinion, both teams were very worthy opponents. They had two excellent scoring opportunities, but "Fish" made two fantastic saves to keep the game close. That's two wins in a row without a loss, and I couldn't be happier for him. I'm happy because we had some great scoring opportunities and the guys are mad we didn't win.

"Overall, I anticipate that both managers will feel like they deserved three points. Morgan Whittaker ended up having a great opportunity. It was only a matter of throwing everything he had at it. Courage and belief in ourselves are what got us through. Positive momentum carried us to strong opening and closing periods. All week long, the vibe at training has been fantastic, thanks in large part to the enthusiastic support of the supporters."

Mark Robins of Coventry said on rezence.com:

"It's a reasonable argument. If we are unable to seize the opportunities before us, then we must settle for that. Swansea are an excellent club; in my opinion, they are among the best in the world. They employ a crafty style of play, and their roster has some highly skilled technical players. They have the chops to back up their technical prowess. Their style of play may throw you off, as it did when we were ahead 3-0 against them at home and ended up drawing 3-3.

"We played well out of possession and made all the proper moves from a tactical standpoint. So far, we're undefeated and up by one point. Only three points separate us from the top six, and we still have a chance to surprise everyone and make this an unforgettable season."
