    Scuba diving at Grand Island

    Grand Island is situated a few kilometers away from Vasco Da Gama. Grand Island is otherwise called "Ilha Island" by the Portuguese. People can easily reach by sailing in a yacht. It is one of the most common places in Goa for people when they come on a trip. Whenever tourists come to Goa, they always visit Grand Island. Scuba diving is best here for both beginners and experienced. So, Grand Island is the best place for scuba diving as beginners can practice easily. Fishing and swimming can be done here. The conditions are perfect in Grand Island for scuba diving. Water is very clear for which divers can see a huge variety of marine life and colorful fishes while diving. They also explore the damages of world war 2 and sunken vessels that are submerged in the floor of the sea. Divers can see coral reefs, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, lobsters, turtles etc. while diving. The starting point is the Sinquerim boat jetty from which divers start scuba diving in Grand Island. It takes approximately 6 hours. So, normally divers start from 9 am to 3 pm.  It is an amazing spot for scuba divers as they can explore marine life due to the best clarity of water. While diving, people forget to blink their eyes. They seem as if they are hugging marine life happily. It is the beautiful sight of flora and fauna that divers never want to stop diving. The temperature of water is also affordable which doesn't create disturbances between divers and their enjoyment. Due to the warm and preferable temperature of the water, divers can easily dive for a long time without facing any health issue. Instructors for scuba diving are also available near the Grand Island to help divers in every condition. They also provide tips to them when they leave for diving into water. While starting the diving journey, people are afraid at first and once they reach the diving site, they become mesmerized by looking at the beautiful sight of flora and fauna.  They also see the splashing of dolphins. They get very excited when they see dancing dolphins jumping in the dancing waves. The color of the environment is bluish green inside the water which takes divers to a fantasy world as if they are in the television and cartoons.

    Instructors are present at every beach where scuba diving is done. They certified people who can go for a dive. They also train people for diving and prepare them to be good divers. If anyone is interested in diving at the site, they first take a test and then they provide permission. Some of the tips that they provide them are-

    • They should arrive from diving at the right time.

    • They should not compete with other divers.

    • They should breathe normally instead of holding breath.

    • They should keep an eye on their air gauge.

    • They should avoid going deeper as it affects their ear due to marine life.

    • They should move slowly which helps them to explore properly.

    • They should not touch anything including coral reefs.

    • They must not fly until 24 hours after a dive. 

    • They should know their weight limit.

    • They should avoid peer pressure.

    • If they are getting panicked they should engage their brain.

    • They should not take any heavy objects with them.

    • They should assemble gear before reaching the site.

    • They should learn buoyancy control.

     

    Instructors make them understand properly and prepare both physically and mentally for the dive. He should make sure that divers are fit and certified for diving. Divers should listen to their divemasters instead of being experts. They should use interaction techniques with marine life by keeping hands close to the body, observing, not interfering in their way, and slowing the movement when observing.
