There are several different types of Home Care service. Nursing home care is the most common type of service, but many people do not think that all services are in this category. The other types are custodial (housekeeping), direct care, therapeutic or rehabilitative services, and adult day care or adult day camp. Each type of home care has different levels of care involved, as well as different levels of supervision by professionals.

Types Of Home Health Care Service That Suitable For Your Family

Among the most common services that are done in a home care setting include personal assistance such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, bathing and dressing, and medication reminders. Most home care services do require staff members who have at least a high school diploma. Other services such as custodial and direct care often require licensed professional employees who have a state license. Some other short-term care services are full-time custodial support or a temporary placement of a caregiver.

There are also short-term and long-term care services. Short-term care services are usually provided by home health agencies and are mostly used when a person needs help getting back to their normal activities that they could previously accomplish on their own. They can include bed rest, partial-body immobility, intravenous feedings, oxygen therapy, physical therapy, and similar things that allow patients to be able to get back to what they were doing when they were healthy. A patient might need bed rest for a week or up to six weeks depending on the reason for needing the short-term services.

A longer term of care would be long-term nursing care. This is most common when someone needs more than a week or two's time of assistance with their recovery or disabilities. Patients in this situation may be prescribed medications and may receive home health care attendants to help them with their daily activities while they are recovering. Long-term care services can include assisted living facilities and special housing if needed. This is typically the most expensive option, but it is also the most beneficial to most patients because they do not have to go through the daily routines like those in the short-term care services.

Another type of home health service is a private pay in home setting. Many families and individuals choose this type of care for their loved ones because it is less expensive and allows them a greater degree of privacy. There are a few disadvantages to using a private pay in home setting though. One is that the family has to spend extra money on hiring the nurse, the caretaker, and the other items needed for their loved one. Another drawback is that the family does not know how their loved one is doing and if the long-term care provider is providing a high standard of care. This is why it is usually best to choose a private long-term care provider if the need for care is only short-term.
