We've all done it: spent our first night in a 3x3 dirt box. But your first house doesn't have to be ugly! Here are three very simple starter house designs that look great and are easy to build with basic materials.
1. The "Hobbit Hole" (Hillside House) This is the easiest and safest starter house.
How to Build: Find a medium-sized hill. Instead of digging a dark cave, dig into the hill and make a 5x5 room. Now, go back to the front and replace the dirt wall with wood planks. Add a door in the middle and two glass windows on either side (make glass by smelting sand in a furnace).
Why it's Good: It's super-fast to build, perfectly safe, and easily expandable. You can just dig more rooms in the back as you get more materials.
2. The Classic "Oak and Cobble" Cabin This is the traditional Minecraft house, and it looks great.
How to Build: Create a 7x7 square foundation of cobblestone. Build the walls 4 blocks high using oak planks. For the corners, use oak logs (the ones with the bark) to add a nice contrast. Create a simple "A-frame" roof using cobblestone stairs.
Why it's Good: This design teaches you the basics of building, mixing materials (wood and stone), and using stairs to make a sloped roof.
3. The "Watchtower" (Safety First) This build is all about staying safe and seeing what's coming.
How to Build: Build a 5x5 square tower out of cobblestone, about 10 blocks high. At the top, build a small room or platform out of wood planks that hangs over the edge by one block. Add a ladder to get up and down.
Why it's Good: No monster (especially Creepers!) can reach you. It gives you a perfect 360-degree view to see your surroundings, and it's a great, safe base of operations.
