How to Setup your HP OfficeJet 6970 Printer?

    HP OfficeJet 6970 Printer - First Time Setup

    To set up your printer, first, remove it from the box, and then follow the setup steps.

    Unboxing of the Printer


    • First, remove the printer, driver installation CD, guides, troubleshooting guides, fax cords, and power cords from the packaging.
    • Driver installation CD contains the software for Windows and Mac OS. You can also download an updated version of the driver or software from this link 6970, if your installation CD is not working.
    • Now, remove all the tapes from the printer, and then remove the stickers from the control panel.
    • Open the scanner lid to remove the packaging material and then close the lid.
    • Open the ink cartridge accessible area with the help of cutouts available on the sides and remove the packaging material from there.
    • Also, remove the packaging material from the input and output tray.


    Initial Setup and Installation

    • Connect one end of the power cord to the rear side of the printer and the other end to an electrical socket.
    • Press the power button of the printer to turn it on.
    • Select your preferred language, country, region, and then tap Yes to confirm your preference.
    • Now, select the date and time and tap Yes to confirm.

    Installing Ink Cartridges

    It is advised to use a setup guide for installation of ink cartridges that came with your HP Printer or follow these steps:

    • Lift the ink cartridge door gently until it locks at its place.
    • Wait a while until the door becomes silent and idle before proceeding further.
    • Remove the ink cartridge from the package, and straightly pull back the orange pull-tab.
    • Be careful while holding the ink cartridge from the sides; rotate the protective orange cap anticlockwise to remove it from the ink cartridge.
    • Match the color of the label to the color dot of the carriage and gently press down the ink cartridge to its slot in the carriage.
    • Repeat these steps to install all the new ink cartridges to their respective slots in the carriage.
    • Gently close the access door of the ink cartridge bay.

    Load Sheets of Paper to the Input Tray
    After installing the ink cartridges, load the plain sheets of paper to the input tray of the printer.


    • To open the input tray, lift the output tray gently, and pull the input tray smoothly until it locks in its place.
    • Slide the paper-width to its last outermost position.
    • Insert the stack of plain paper into the input tray.
    • Note: Never load different size of papers into the input tray to avoid printing issues.
    • Slide the paper-width towards the sheets of paper until it fits to the ends of the paper.
    • Push the input tray towards the printer until it fixes in its place and then gently lower the output tray.
    • Alignment of the Printer
    • It is essential to align the printer to achieve the best printing quality.
    • After loading the sheets of paper to the input tray, the control panel of the printer prompts a message to align the printer then touch OK to confirm that the papers have been aligned.
    • A sheet of paper starts to print.
    • Wait for a while until the alignment page entirely ejects from the printer.
    • To scan a document, smoothly lift the scanner lid.
    • Align a sheet of paper from the print side on the scanner glass.
    • Gently close the scanner lid.
    • Touch on Scan to print an alignment copy of the scanned paper.
