Attars and essential oils have been used for centuries as means of aromatherapy, fragrance, and even medicine.

Attar: A traditional Indian perfume made from natural ingredients such as flowers, herbs, and spices. It gets prepared by soaking the ingredients in a base oil, such as sandalwood or jojoba oil.

After that, the mixture gets distilled to extract the fragrance. Because ittar gets prepared using a traditional distillation process, it is often more expensive than essential oils.

Essential oil: A concentrated oil extracted from plants using various methods such as steam distillation or cold pressing is known as an essential oil. These have been used in aromatherapy or for other therapeutic and medicinal purposes.

While attar and essential oil have natural origins, they differ in their potency, method of extraction, and uses.

Attar is used in traditional Indian perfumes, while the essential oil is used in aromatherapy, as well as in personal care products, cleaning products, and other applications. Ittars like oud attar, mitti attar, and mogra attar have natural qualities which help to relieve your nerves and calm your mind.

Here are the various ways of using attars and essential oils:

Diffusing: One of the most popular ways of using attars and essential oils is through diffusing. A diffuser is a device that disperses the aroma of the oil or attar into the air.

It is possible with an electric diffuser, a reed diffuser, or even by adding a few drops of the oil or attar to a bowl of hot water.

Massage: Another way to use attars and essential oils is through massage. Adding a few drops of oil or attar to a carrier oil, such as coconut or almond oils, can create a relaxing and fragrant massage oil.

The refreshing original sandalwood attar has therapeutic and rejuvenating properties. Some attars can be mixed with unscented lotions or massage oils and used to massage the entire body for relaxation.

Bathing: Adding a few drops of essential oil or attar to your bathwater can create an elevating and rejuvenating experience. It is especially effective for sandalwood, jojoba, and Oud attar.

You can also prepare a blend by taking a small amount of essential oil (5 to 20 drops) with a tablespoon of carrier oil. Then before going for a bath, rub the oil blend onto your skin so that the oil gets absorbed and penetrates your skin for maximum benefits.

Inhalation: Inhaling essential oils or attars can have therapeutic benefits. Adding a few drops of oil or attar to a bowl of hot water and inhaling the steam can help to clear the sinuses and promote relaxation.

According to medical research, inhaling essential oils treats severe health issues like sleeping disorders, anxiety, and depression. Scents like rose, sandalwood itra, jasmine and ylang ylang have shown results in treating these issues.

Skin Care: Many attars and essential oils have benefits for the skin. Adding a few drops of oil or attar to your moisturizer or face wash can help to soothe and nourish the skin. Attars are beneficial for the skin as they are natural and alcohol-free.

Oud Attar is used for their therapeutic benefits and aromatic qualities. Aromatherapy can be practiced at home and offers a range of benefits for physical, emotional, and mental health.
